ExxonMobil expands H&P FlexRobotics deployment to nine systems
Helmerich & Payne announced that it will deploy seven more FlexRobotics systems for ExxonMobil over about the next 12 months, bringing the total for the operator from two to nine. The first two systems were deployed on H&P rigs. H&P did not disclose rig locations or financial terms.
H&P describes FlexRobotics as automating repetitive rig-floor tasks, which it says reduces worker exposure to higher-risk work and improves consistency and precision. H&P CEO Trey Adams said the expansion shows the value automation can deliver; ExxonMobil’s Bart Cahir said the company is building on lessons from the initial deployments. These performance statements are company-reported; no independent results were published with the announcement.
An operator choosing to multiply a system after two initial units is a stronger signal than a pilot announcement, though the outcome data behind the decision has not been published. For well control and drilling quality, the practical question is whether consistent execution on the rig floor shows up as fewer incidents and less variability in measured performance.
